Hippie met up with her favourite buddy the other evening…. Poppy is a gorgeous 3 year old rescued from the Newark branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust and Hippie loves her…..
As soon as they meet Hippie is down into ‘play bow’ mode and then leaps around cajoling Poppy to ‘come and have a play!!
They race around the garden together Poppy likes to fetch her plastic squeaky bone, squeaking it as she goes. Hippie, on the other paw likes to remove the squeak as fast as she can – so Poppy doesn’t let her get it very often.
This makes a great deal of sense as Hippie is content to just race around with Poppy or even just stare adoringly from a distance.
Either way they love being together and as they spend holidays together its a good thing – they even share their bowls..
Without any fuss….
Then its another turn around the garden – but wait where is Poppy?
Aha there you are – lets go outside..
This goes on for hours with them chasing through the house like lunatics but the outcome is always the same – our girl just has to have a lie down!!!
Bless you two girls – its so good that you have been rescued and have a happy life while you are young enough to enjoy it!!!
Aw .. it is good to see them enjoying themselves! Funny how different they are with squeaky toys, isn’t it?
Mine are different too – the Pirate loves to carry his toys around and lay on them, but rarely tosses and squeaks them. The Princess has a mad five minutes leaping and twirling and tossing them around squeaking them madly, then suddenly drops them and it’s done. And she never, ever just carries them around. LOL!
help me here a bit. I am seriously contemplating getting a cat. I have 2 cats at different times in the past, and Simon’s vid make me want to have another. but I couldn’t have a dog – are you not tied down completely? and don’t greyhounds have to be muzzled at all times? meeeeeeeeeoww!
No we’re not tied down completely – lovers of rescued greys are very helpful at holiday times and our girl loves all breeds but especially her own so she is quite happy to go and stay while we are out of the country on holiday.
When we first got her she arrived complete with muzzle – to ensure small animals didn’t get molested, but it soon became apparent that she didn’t want to eat other animals and I think she has only worn it once. But Hippie has never raced properly – she spent her first two years being trained for racing but didn’t make the grade. She did chase Max a few times but since he had a word with himself she doesn’t even look at him – scared is not the word.
Greyhounds are lovely – I am not a dog person at all but we have bonded over the last three months (while I’ve been on sick leave) and she has become such a friend – good company – ten minute walk twice a day and never barks. I’d recommend it to anyone – Max is lovely and very loyal to me but some cats are loners and you can never tell!!!
