I have been having a bit of a de-clutter!
When I first moved here 6 years ago I had thrown out so much to down size and only kept my ‘treasures’. The thing is I really don’t know why…..
So… I had a go at selling my carnival glass collection on Ebay – yep, I sold some but not all so I still have many pieces left to dust….
This weekend I decided to go through some of the cupboards where ‘things’ had been stashed years ago, and I found…
My father’s coin collection (I’ve been dragging that around with me for years) – not just the really old florins and crowns but no less than 4 sets of first decimal coin packs – two English
And two Irish…
Goodness knows what I’ll do with them….
But then I came across these…
These War Office Issue books were given to my last surviving uncle who will be 92 next month when he was in the army during world war 2. He was one of the first English soldiers to enter Germany when the war finished and these were the books he was given.
He didn’t speak any German at the time but with a little help from these books and a young German girlfriend he thoroughly enjoyed his time there – he always says he has never met a more friendly and hospitable race – particularly after all the hostilities. He even started me off with my love of languages by buying a German Language course with records and books for me when I was quite young.
So, what do I do with these?
Back in the cupboard I suppose, for now, at least!!!!
But there’s loads more too!
Maybe I should move house again?
We’ve de-cluttered several times – it’s very difficult to decide what to keep and what to get rid of……… luckily the TG has, up to now anyway, decided to hang on to me ……..
Re the Carnival Ware – have you got any Fairings as well…… I love those and some are quite saucy!

Be very careful my friend – you may be next!!!!!
Fairings? I’m not sure what they are…. only the motor bike variety!
The orange carnival glass was just something I collected in the 70’s – but when my Mum was little she won several fancy dress competitions at the local fair and i still have all her prizes – they were all bone china and very delicate – more stuff!!!!
Seems I de-clutter only to clutter again. Ebay is a good place for doing both. 😉 How is Max doing? Scritches to Hippie!

I have been accused of de-cluttering on a daily basis, tossing out anything that has no immediate use. I have lately come to realize that some of my clutter has memories attached, so I am bit more prudent now. Don’t know how long it will last though!

I wish I could de-clutter, but when I attempt it I just end up taking everything out, looking at it, not knowing which to keep and which to chuck, and end up putting it all away again. 🙂

Sistertex – No I am determined not to buy stuff- the only things I buy from Ebay are perfume and Spanish audio courses. Max and Hippie send peace and love your way!!!!
Cortes – see – you’re a man, less attached to stuff from the onset so less likely to get lumbered with it later!!!
Coastal Aussie – thats where we go wrong – we look at it…. then some of us blog about it and we put it all away again..
I dunno about the carnival glass, but the coins and the German books are probably family heirloom material. Having done a lot of research into our family history, I find that it’s items like these that really bring the history to life.
I love pressed glass, but not carnival glass. I love the utility glassware; the little creamers and sugar bowls, the salt cellars, the everyday glasses and tumblers and especially Chippendale!
Hi Jay – the problem with family heirlooms is the family needs to want them, and there’s another story!
It sounds like you are a hoarder too – I still have my Mum’s pressed glass dressing table tray with candlesticks, pots ring tray etc – just don’t have the dressing table!!!
No other story to be told – we need discussions, otherwise I’ll be suspending your eBay account!
