Thank goodness I have been blessed (?) with a wicked sense of humour because this week I have needed it.
Not only is my arm very sore after surgery but I have to keep it dry.
I tried having a bath with my arm hanging over the side but it was not a relaxing experience.
My partner suggested wrapping my arm in cling film and having a shower…. I tried it but found I couldn’t use my clingfilmed arm at all because the film, whilst keeping it dry, also kept my arm straight.
My daughter took me to Boots and I purchased this item…
Can you tell what it is yet?
No – it is not a giant condom as suggested by my partner…. it is a shower sleeve – a fantastic invention!
You can use it to cover any limb while showering – even a foot!
It’s very difficult for me to put on – mainly because to tighten the elastic cords at each end requires two hands, but, I used my teeth to pull the cord while my ‘good’ hand pushed the button release. That’s when I started to giggle at how ridiculous I must look!
And, although it’s huge – it works, and I can now shower – so things are looking up!
That looks like a most useful thing – and yes, it does look like a giant condom! LOL!
I can imagine your partner not minding that being on display in the bathroom … *naughty giggles*
A size for every appendage, or does one size fit all. Ingenious!Whatever will you do with it when your done?

Jay – What he actually said was ‘it looks like a giant condom – hmm… can you get it in a bigger size?’
The answer was no – they only have one size….
Cortes – I think that answers your first question and the answer to the second is -I shall have to keep it as I have to have the other elbow ‘done’ when this has healed!
I was just going to suggest one of these….no not a giant condom 😉
Hopefully you won’t have the bandages on for too long.
Get well soon.

Can just imagine all your contortions. No-one realises how much we depend on each of our “parts” until we lose the use of one of them. Good find in Boots though. Not only does it work but has got everyone’s imaginations going and given us a giggle! Hope your arm continues to improve. A x
Hi Val – I shall be so glad when I am allowed to get wet again … thank you for your good wishes!
Anne – If only manufacturers would give a thought to how injured people are going to deal with these items – they might make them a little less amusing to put on!!! But then it wouldn’t be funny would it and I need the laughs!!!
Phew..! Glad you explained about that shower sleeve. Gave me quite a nasty turn!
Hope your arm feels a lot better today.
Being one handed can be really frustrating…grrr.. (personal list to date: carpal tunnel op’ ; broken right elbow; broken wrist; and broken hand – all at different times).
So if I may suggest… Just lay back and cuddle the cat and enjoy being pampered for a while (ah, bliss!) Cups of tea all day; boxes of sympathy chocolates; meals cooked and cleaning done for you; someone else carrying the heavy shopping…..oh the list is endless. Milk it gal!

Haha . . must be an Aussie condom! Great idea though. My nephew recently broke his arm and has had his plaster reset twice because he keeps getting it wet! (apologies for the Honeymoon comment on my blog . . I thought you were a different Kate!)

Ah Geri – I cannot imagine what you were thinking? Or can I?
I’m catching up with you there – two carpal tunnel ops and heading for the second cubital tunnel – when this one is better of course!
Sadly there’s no milking it to be had – Maxie is loving the cuddles alright but I’m afraid if I want tea I have to get it myself!!!
E.M Thats an enormous word for a giant condom – did you make it up?
All wabbits welcome here – with the cat, the greyhound and the guinea pig! Not to mention the foxes!!!
Baino – mmmm isn’t it in Australia that the word we use for sticky tape means condom (or is it the other way round?)????
Honeymoon? That wouldn’t be this Kate – I had one once though – loved it, but I don’t think I’ll bother again!!!!
