Sunday ? and a late start for a change?
On Lisa?s recommendation we were going to try a traditonal Singapore breakfast today.
This consists of a lightly boiled egg served on a saucer ? which we were supposed to slurp (yes, slurp) from the saucer, toast and coffee.
It is also called kopi and kaya!!!
Oh dear ? oh very dear ?.neither of us could face the runny egg so we just ordered the toast and coffee.
We should have backed away when we watched as the coffee was made with tins of condensed milk and brown sludge, but no, these intrepid travellers took it to the table along with the ?wireless patron alert? which would beep when our toast was ready.
Oh dear ? the toast looked okay but was served sandwich style and on closer inspection turned out to have a filling of green spread with a slice of butter on top.
We tried ? but it was nasty and I mean really nasty ?.. I know I should say its an acquired taste ?. but I can?t.
Liz looked decidedly unwell as she struggled to eat just a little bit, the coffee was so sickly it was impossible to drink, and the aftertaste?. well it just wouldn?t go away. We left it and the birds swooped in immediately ? but even they left it!!!
So maybe MacDonalds was a good idea after all.
Uhg….makes my stomach flippy just reading about it. Good Old MacD’s. 😉
When traveling and sampling local cuisine (some of which cannot really be called cuisine), I always try to remember that the “eyes never lie”. If it looks nasty, it will taste nasty. Hope lunch turned out better?
Ugh! That sounds disgusting. Never thought I’d say this – but it’s a good thing you had access to a MacDonalds!
Sistertex – Well I didn’t divert from my diary there – that was exactly what I wrote at the time …..
Cortes – I guess I’m just not used to the nastier side of food – at least I wasn’t used to it until kopi and kaya!!! Oh yes – it was much better!
Geri – Yup – and the memory lingered on for quite some time!
Sounds like some weird hybrid of asian and western brekkie. I like my eggs sunny side up but not ‘sloppy’.
