Well there were only two actually.
Last Friday in the penultimate (I hope) part of my garden makeover, the conifers in my garden that back onto the street had a five foot haircut! they had grown so tall it was dark in my kitchen and my satellite dish could find a satellite!!!
But now ? there is light ? the trees are still there ? necessary only because the street beyond is four feet higher than my garden and they do provide some privacy.
It look forever to clean up afterwards but all branches have now been removed ? I?ll need some new solar lights though as there were a couple of breakages!
Next it will be the patch of soil, put in to add extra drainage
Its the overgrown bit behind Hippie in this chilling out pic! It needs to be dug over ? then some plants that are still in pots from the patio garden that I used to have will be transplanted ? hopefully in the coming weeks.
Alfie loved the activity and the sunshine yesterday..
He?s learned to sit on command this week plus we are still trying to walk with a lead but that?s a much longer job - he has another week of staying in after his second injection on Tuesday ? then it will be ?Walkies? daily and a whole new world for him!
My daughter visited after work and bought him a present..
Bless him ? i don?t think he knew what to make of it but it made sure he didn?t get sunburnt!
His favourite toys at the moment are small plastic bottles ? they keep him busy for hours and he just couldn?t wait for my daughter to finish hers..
Yes Alfie it is the ?Real Thing!?
No more gardening this weekend though ? I twisted my knee clearing up and though it was okay yesterday, it started to hurt during the night so I?ve strapped it up and am taking it easy today!
Will you trail plants up the base of the conifers? We lived with a line of them just like that for years. My neighbour had them along his boundary between us, since they were not ours I could do nothing about the bare look.
Hi Grannymar – Well I have been trying for years to grow something under the trees, but nothing does. The soil isn’t good and the trees take everything from it – the best I can get is a few daffodils – they look ok for a short while. Even plants in pots will not grow – strange that weeds grow though….. so I wind solar lights around the trunks – at least they look nice at night!!!
‘Hurty knee’ is a very serious complaint ……. take it easy for several days ………
Glad you are getting on so well with the garden. Sorry abouut the knee though. A gardening hazard.
The street 4 feet higher than your garden wonder if you get flooding.
I can see how much you love your dog.
Hope you are settling well after your grand trip.
Hi Kate, how come your very nice looking garden is 4ft. lower than the street???
Is your house built over an old mine shaft? Did it suddenly happen? Should we be worried?
Alfies little jacket is cute btw!~
DaddyP- difficult this evening as I have the greyhound over for a few hours dog-sitting – the pup thinks she’s amazing but they’re are issues!!!
Barbara – that was the reason for the makeover – the flooding was dreadful – but because the person that owned the place before me chose to slab the whole area – the water came up through the garage floor – thats why we had to change it all!
It was a puppy hazard I’m afraid – trying to get around him dancing between my feet – he’s a sweetie but hard work at the minute!
Oh – the trip is a wonderful memory and I have loads to write yet – it will happen!!!!
Geri – Just the lie of the land and the fact that the previous owner dug down to get it flat to lay slabs and went below the water table – crazy man – but clever enough to sell it before they were problems!
Yes his new clothes are cute but like any kid – filthy in seconds!!
I hate gardening. I think cos mines’ so friggin’ big! Nothing a hedge clipper and a chain saw can’t tidy but it takes forever. Packet of peas on that knee madam!
Baino – I don’t like it either – thats why I bought a house with a completely slabbed garden …. bliss… just a few pots here and there…. but then it flooded and now look -I even had to buy a new lawn mower and that was the first thing I sold when I was moving here!!
Yuk, gardening, how time-consuming it is, though I do appreciate the end product. I wouldn’t want a house without a garden. If only I had enough money to get a little man in….
Our lawn gets water-logged after a lot of rain but no flooding, thank goodness.
Alfie’s blue jumpsuit is amazing. Has he thought of a career in modelling?
He does look gorgeous, bless him! I wonder what Sid will make of him when they meet?
Look after that knee! By the way, my knee surgery was put off since I developed a horrible sore throat and cold overnight and they didn’t want me. Can’t think why …
