My sister was all frothy underskirts

And I was a sticky kid

Oh how I must have irritated

With some of the things I did

She left me in the post office

When I was only three

Boy, did she get into trouble ..

When Mum found out, you see..

My sister was a dreamer

Her head usually in a book

She’d forgotten I was with her

Didn’t even take a look!

Just went home for her dinner

and to face the wrath of Mum

She didn’t come back for me…

I was left with a rumbling tum

But her little ploy was rumbled too

I wasn’t lost forever

She’d taught me my name and address

The post people thought I was so clever

They took me home in a post office van

It was a lovely shade of green

Yes it really was that long ago

Some of you know what I mean

My big sister taught me

The magic inside a book

She read to me for hours

What Katy did or Captain Hook

For many years we shared a room

Her make up , high heels and frocks

Fascinated little me

Watching in my ankle socks

These are early memories

Of three score years of my sister

I’ll keep them all carefully in my heart

For all of the times that I’ll miss her
