Friday morning and our first full day in Singapore!
We both woke early, desperate for a cup of tea, and extremely hungry? so, after showers we headed out in search of breakfast ? Hooray, MacDonalds was almost opposite ? no, I know it?s not trying the local breakfast but it was there and besides when we did try the local breakfast ? well?.. but that?s another story!
Two deluxe breakfasts later and we were both ready to face the day!
Lisa wasn?t meeting us until later so we decided to go back to the pretty building in my last post and see if there were any more.
We walked down the side of the building, just off Orchard Road and the scene changed dramatically?
No more shopping malls..
Just some really pretty old houses,
And yes, there was a shop ? but not like the others..
I don?t know what the ?one price? was as we didn?t go inside but this was obviously an area where the rich and possibly famous live as most ?normal? Singaporeans live in high rise apartment blocks. These houses would cost a fortune to buy or rent.
But they were lovely
The local artists were just setting up so it was obviously ?the place? to paint..
It?s called Emerald Hill and was probably the prettiest living accommodation I saw during my stay there.
Note the lions on the gate post ? still dressed up for the New Year celebrations.
It was nearly time to meet Lisa so we had to leave, we were to be enjoying Singapore Slings in Raffles Hotel later that day!!
Good idea to disappear down side streets …….. I won’t tell you off too much for the MacDonalds incident ………
Well I will! Macdonalds! Good grief woman. Then they’re good for budget food in a hurry I suppose. Great spot and not at all as I’d imagine Singapore. I think every city has it’s little historical grove, you just have to find it. Good on you for getting off the tourist track.
Thos old houses are really pretty.
McDonalds? Shame on you. You could at least have tried one of the local caffs….
Nice houses. I love to go where the locals go when I am away from home!
Sounds like you are having fun.
Great houses, and keep going down the side streets and the alleyways, as there are always neat little things to discover. Keep reporting, I am looking forward to seeing Singapore!
Daddy P – I love to see the real people when I am away and Emerald Hill was a start! And MacDonalds – well what can I say? Nice hotcakes maybe!!!
Baino – We were hungry and it was there!!! And the other place? Well I’m still a hippy at heart and will always look for the real culture!! Expensive or not as will probably be revealed!
Nick – Breakfast caffs were well scarey – we did try but that comes later – yes it was….really pretty
Grannymar – we were fortunate – having ‘locals’ to guide us but this place we found on our own! Oh yes- it was unbelievable!!!
Cortes – Like you – I like to see the real things – life is full of facades I like to get behind them!
lol McDonalds!
Lovely photos, the houses are great.
Hi Kate! Thanks for visiting with me over at my place!
These houses are amazing…but McDonalds? That’s exactly where WE would have eaten, had I been there with my husband. ..the King of CHEAP. When we spent five days in New Orleans, we ate EVERY meal at either McDonalds, Wendy’s, or Burger King!
Ethelmae potter – Thank you for visiting me too!! In fairness to your Fred – at least you know what you’re getting there!!!!
Val – It was a lovely place and MacDonalds!!! 🙂
